Postcards from Alaska: Tandra Visits Clear Air Force Station

Posted Jan 30, 2014

Titans cheerleader Tandra is off to Clear Air Force Station on Day 3 of her goodwill trip to Alaska!

Alaska Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6

Hi Titans Fans!!

We got to sleep in a little today.  Call time was at 9 a.m., so I was able to relax while getting ready and really enjoying the morning.  We only had an hour and a half drive to our next destination – Clear Air Force Station!

This place was absolutely fascinating!  When we first arrived, we went to the cafeteria and had the privilege of joining some of our troops for lunch!  I met an amazing lady named Jessica!  She immediately discovered I was a nurse and wanted to take me straight to visit their clinic!  I was so excited!  It was such a miracle place, because it had all the essentials they needed for an entire hospital, right there in their clinic!

It was an honor meeting their nurses because they truly are important and talented people.  They have to be extremely versatile in their position since they are not specialized in once specific area.  They deal with all situations from the common cold to a broken leg needing a cast.

We then got to see and take pictures with the equipment that was used in the old Radar towers!  Then we drove over to see the old and new Radars.  Due to such high security, we were not allowed to tour inside, but we did get to see the Radars close up.  We learned how important these people on this base are to us.  They are the ones who keep a 24/7 surveillance on outer space to detect anything that could potentially harm us. This is a huge responsibility!  There are two people monitoring the whole time.  They come in eight-hour shifts 24/7.

After learning all the exciting facts about this station, we went back to our hotel to get ready for our team dinner.  We used this night as another team bonding night.  We went to a seafood restaurant on the river.  It was gorgeous!

Were back to our “Alaska home” now and off to bed!  Until next time!
