Titans LB Colin McCarthy's Clinic Preps High School Players

Posted May 13, 2014

Titans LB Colin McCarthy hosted his second annual free combine prep clinic for high school football players.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Tennessee Titans linebacker Colin McCarthy hosted a free High School Combine Clinic on May 10.  Approximately 50 area high school athletes joined McCarthy and Titans teammates for instruction to help them take their skills to the next level.

The clinic focused on training high school athletes for college combines.  The athletes participated in various drills to test their performance and discover what needs improvement as they move from high school to the college level and potentially preparing for the pros.

Posting great numbers at a combine can put an athlete, who had been relatively unnoticed, on the radar of a major university and scholarship opportunities. McCarthy attended a similar clinic while attending Clearwater Central Catholic High School in Florida and believes the combine training better prepared him for college play and ultimately the NFL.

“I wanted to do something that really meant something to me,” McCarthy said. “Combine training is an excellent way college coaches can evaluate talent throughout the country. Obviously they don’t get to see every athlete play, but how fast you run, how high you jump, and how explosive you are all translate through the combine drills around the world. Anyway to help a high school player reach the next level, I’m all for it and that is what’s important.”

It was the second straight year for McCarthy to host the clinic at Quest Sports Center. He was joined by Michael Griffin, Karl Klug, Zach Brown, Moise Fokou, Brandon Copeland and Adam Schiltz.
