Chris Johnson scored a pair of touchdowns, including a 6-yard run with 3:40 remaining,
as the Tennessee Titans improved to 4-0 for the first time in franchise history
with a 30-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings Sunday at LP Field. In winning
their 7th consecutive regular season game, the Titans registered four sacks, including
two by Albert Haynesworth and 1.5 by Tony Brown. Nick Harper ended any chance
of a Vikings comeback when he picked off Gus Frerotte with 3:46 remaining. Johnson
scored on the next play, taking a toss from Kerry Collins and running untouched
into the end zone to give the Titans a 13-point cushion. Johnson and LenDale White
each scored on 1-yard runs as the Titans jumped out to a 20-10 halftime lead.
A 49-yard field goal by Rob Bironas, the veteran kicker's third FG of the game,
gave Tennessee a 23-10 lead midway through the third quarter. But after scoring
on a 28-yard run earlier in the game, Adrian Peterson scored his second touchdown
on a 3-yard run, pulling the Vikings to within 23-17 with six minutes remaining.
Peterson, the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2007, finished with 80 yards
on 18 attempts and two touchdowns. Johnson, Tennessee's first-round pick out of
East Carolina, gained 61 yards on 17 attempts with a pair of scores. Collins completed
18-of-35 passes for 199 yards. Frerotte was 25-of-43 for 266 yards and an interception.
Justin Gage led Titans receivers with five receptions for 92 yards. The Titans
play at Baltimore next Sunday.
