Here’s a look at players taken from the 10th or 11th spots in the previous 10 years of the NFL Draft.
Overview: Of the 20 players, nine have been on offense (three offensive linemen, four quarterbacks, two receivers and zero running backs or tight ends), and 11 have played defense (five defensive linemen, three linebackers and three defensive backs).
An AFC South team has held the 10th or 11th spot a total of six times in five of the past 10 years (Houston three times, Jacksonville twice and Tennessee a year ago). Jacksonville picked from the 10th spot in 2010 and 2011.
San Francisco is the most recent team to pick 10th and 11th in consecutive seasons (2009-10).
10th pick — Tennessee selects Alabama guard Chance Warmack, who started all 16 games and didn’t miss a snap.
11th pick— San Diego selects Warmack’s former Crimson Tide teammate, tackle D.J. Fluker, who started all 15 games he played.
10th pick — Buffalo selects defensive back Stephon Gilmore out of South Carolina. Gilmore has started 25 of 27 games he’s played and has three interceptions and 26 passes defensed.
11th pick— Kanas City selects defensive tackle Dontari Poe out of Memphis. Poe has started all 31 games he’s played, anchoring the Chiefs’ defensive line and recording 4.5 sacks in 2013 when he was selected to the Pro Bowl.
10th pick — Jacksonville tabs quarterback Blaine Gabbert out of Missouri. Gabbert went 5-22 in 27 starts and has been traded to San Francisco. Gabbert’s career completion percentage is 53.3 and his passer rating is 66.4. He had a rough rookie season, suffering 40 sacks and fumbling a league-high 14 times.
11th pick— Houston selects defensive end J.J. Watt out of Wisconsin. Watt has been selected All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl the past two seasons. Watt has started all 48 games and has 36.5 sacks and 27 passes defensed, including 20.5 sacks that led the league in 2012 when he was named AP Defensive Player of the Year.
10th pick — Jacksonville selects defensive tackle Tyson Alualu out of California. Alualu has started all 64 games and has 11 sacks.
11th pick— San Francisco selects tackle Anthony Davis out of Rutgers. Davis has started all 64 regular season games at right tackle and helped the 49ers make the past three NFC Championship games and a trip to Super Bowl XLVII.
10th pick — San Francisco selects receiver Michael Crabtree out of Texas Tech. Crabtree has started 61 of 63 games but missed 11 in 2013. He has 279 career receptions for 3,629 yards and 22 TDs, and prior to 2013, he had at least 48 receptions and 625 yards each season.
11th pick— Buffalo drafts defensive end Aaron Maybin out of Penn State. Maybin played two seasons with the Bills and two with the New York Jets, recording six sacks in 2011.
10th pick — New England drafts linebacker Jerod Mayo out of the University of Tennessee. Mayo has started 79 of 81 games played but missed 10 in 2013. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year, has made two Pro Bowls, been named All-Pro one time and helped the Patriots make it to Super Bowl XLVI.
11th pick— Buffalo selects defensive back Leodis McKelvin out of Troy. McKelvin has started 46 of 79 games he’s played and recorded seven interceptions and 48 passes defensed. He’s also returned 71 punts for 817 yards and three TDs. He led the NFL with two punt returns for touchdowns and with an 18.7 yards per return average in 2012. McKelvin has returned 91 kickoffs for 2,407 yards, including 52 for 1,468 as a rookie.
10th pick — Houston selects defensive tackle Amobi Okoye out of Louisville. Okoye spent four seasons with the Texans, starting 58 of 62 games, posting 5.5 sacks as a rookie and 5.5 over the next three seasons. Okoye was with Chicago two seasons after that.
11th pick— San Francisco drafts linebacker Patrick Willis out of Mississippi. Willis is a seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro who has helped the 49ers make three straight NFC Championship games and Super Bowl XLVII. Willis has started all 106 games he’s played and has seven interceptions, has 20.5 sacks and is a tackling machine.
10th pick — Arizona selects quarterback Matt Leinart out of Southern Cal. Leinart went 7-10 as a starter with 14 TDs, 20 INTs and a passer rating of 70.8 percent in four seasons with the Cardinals. He started and won one game with Houston in 2011 and appeared in two games with Oakland in 2012.
11th pick— Denver drafts quarterback Jay Cutler out of Vanderbilt. Cutler went 17-20 as a starter and made one Pro Bowl with the Broncos. He is 39-28 as a starter in five seasons with Chicago. Cutler has thrown 155 TDs, compared to 112 INTs and has a career passer rating of 84.6.
10th pick — Detroit drafts receiver Mike Williams out of Southern Cal. Williams started six of 22 games in two seasons with the Lions. He spent part of 2007 with Oakland and Tennessee. Williams returned to football in 2010 with Seattle and had 65 catches for 751 yards and two scores that season.
11th pick— Dallas selects linebacker DeMarcus Ware out of Troy. Ware is a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro. He started 140 of the 141 games he played in nine seasons with the Cowboys. Ware has 117 sacks, including three seasons with at least 15.5 sacks, and has 32 forced fumbles. He joined Denver in the 2014 offseason.
10th pick — Houston selects defensive back Dunta Robinson out of South Carolina. Robinson spent six seasons with the Texans, starting all 16 games in four seasons. He had six interceptions as a rookie and seven in the next five seasons. Robinson spent three seasons with Atlanta, starting all 47 games he played and had four interceptions. He spent the 2013 season with Kansas City.
11th pick— Pittsburgh drafts quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out of Miami (Ohio). Roethlisbergher is 95-47 in the regular season as a starter and is 10-4 with the Steelers in the postseason, including wins in Super Bowl XL and XLIII. He has thrown for 34,105 yards with 219 TDs against 122 interceptions and has a career passer rating of 92.6.
