Coach Munchak's Nov. 1 Practice Report

Posted Nov 1, 2013

HEAD COACH MIKE MUNCHAK

(on players’ statuses heading into Sunday)

Moise (Fokou) will be the only one that is out, and (Michael) Griffin will be questionable. (David) Stewart is questionable and didn’t practice today, but he had a good practice yesterday. (Patrick) Bailey is probable. (Craig) Stevens didn’t practice but is questionable; his back is a little sore from yesterday. We think he’ll be fine—we’re just resting him today.

(on Michael Griffin’s participation in practice)

He was limited in practice but did a lot with the scout team and a little bit of defense. He moved around better than we thought, so we’ll see how he responds tomorrow, and we’ll make a decision on Sunday.

(on Michael Griffin never missing a game in his career)

That makes it a little harder. When (Michael) Roos missed his game, it was hard. That makes it a little harder, but, again, if he’s not ready, obviously we’re not going to put him out there.

(on getting David Stewart back into practice full-time)

Well, we thought Thursday and Friday (he’d practice). With being inside (yesterday) the whole practice and the AstroTurf, we thought it’d be best to rest him today.

(on other options at safety if Michael Griffin can’t play)

We’d move some guys around, (Damion) Stafford (could play) also. He’ll get some reps, and George (Wilson) will get some reps if (Michael Griffin) couldn’t go. Obviously, if we had Griff down for some reason, then we’d also have Corey Lynch.

(on whether David Stewart will play Saturday)

I would assume like he’s been. We don’t see any reason to think he wouldn’t play. We’d like him to have practiced a little more today, but we just thought it wasn’t worth it.

(on the decision to practice inside yesterday)

It was a combination of both. It was messy and wet.

(on whether he expects surprises on special teams from the Rams)

I think we know firsthand that Jeff (Fisher) likes to do different things, wants to make sure you’re well prepared. Nate (Kaczor) does a great job, so that’s something we work on every week. It’s something we work on with other special teams coordinators that we know have a history of trying specialty plays or trying some different things. It keeps you on your toes. It makes for a more exciting week I think that these guys realize they have to be more alert than in the past, and that’s a good thing.

(on how Damian Williams looked returning balls)

He has looked great. There’s nothing like on the job training when you actually have to catch one under pressure. He’s been good. Any time he’s handled the ball he’s done well. He’s a good decision maker but hasn’t done it in a long time. It’ll be a good opportunity for him—I know he’s really excited about it. He’s planning on making plays for us and getting us in good field position, so hopefully he’ll be able to do that.
