Griffin's Fundraiser Successfully Raises Money for Sacks 4 Kids

Posted Sep 26, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Michael Griffin, a two-time Pro Bowl safety for the Tennessee Titans, hosted a celebrity fundraiser, “Cantina for a Cause,” at Cantina Laredo in The Gulch on Sept. 24.

The event benefited Griffin’s “Sacks 4 Kids” program, which provides bags of healthy foods and snacks to disadvantaged kids in Metro High Schools to take home on the weekends. These bags are given discreetly to kids who come from dire home circumstances that prevent them from having access to nutritious meals. The program is operated in conjunction with “Packed With Love,” a local non-profit organization.

“I am very excited to host my first charity fundraiser,” Griffin said. “It was a fun night, and we raised a lot of money for the Sacks 4 Kids program. Being an athlete, I know how important nutrition is to having the energy to do my job. I am determined to help those kids here in Nashville who are hungry get the nutrition they need.”

“Cantina for a Cause” gave attendees the opportunity to mix and mingle with their favorite Titans players: Leroy Harris, Robert Johnson, Markelle Martin, Colin McCarthy, Jason McCourty, Ryan Mouton, Coty Sensabaugh, Fernando Velasco, Alterraun Verner and Nate Washington. The event featured a live and silent auction filled with unique memorabilia and experiences. Memorabilia ranged from an authentic throwback Oilers helmet signed by the current Titans roster to a Steelers Helmet signed by Hall of Famer Franco Harris.

“Cantina for a Cause” was a great success and raised more than $15,000!

Griffin is resolved to continue the fight against hunger with nutritious meals for these children.

About Sacks 4 Kids

With the help of Griffin, “Sacks 4 Kids” works with local schools and after-school programs to distribute backpacks full of healthy snacks for low-income children to take home over the weekend.

These children are on free or reduced lunch and the meals they receive at school are often the only full meal they eat each day. Over the weekends, when they do not have access to school lunches, they frequently go without the nutritious foods that give them the energy they need.

This school year, Dream Builders and Griffin will provide at least 100 kids in Nashville with these backpacks every week. The program will feed kids at select schools in Nashville for as many weeks possible during the 2012-13 school year.
