Kenny Britt Sharpens Focus on Football

Posted May 31, 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kenny Britt’s eyes struggled last season to pick up the ball as it left the quarterback’s hands.

That vision has improved, and he’s cast his eyes on being better than he was before he suffered a torn ACL and MCL that he suffered in Week 3 of the 2011 season.

Kenny Britt said he's felt good during the Titans offseason workout program and is excited about a new playbook for 2013.

“I don’t believe I have to prove anything, but I’d like to prove that I can be the receiver that I was two years ago and am better than the receiver I was two years ago,” Britt said. “I want to be better than that because I’ve focused more on football than I have ever in my life in the last two months, and I’m excited to see what I can do this year.

“They’re counting on me to be on the field, and do all the right things on the field and off the field,” Britt continued. “I expect to be there and be the full athlete that I should be and am going to be.”

Britt’s offseason focus on football included training in Pensacola, Fla., and Los Angeles, in addition to his attendance at Tennessee’s voluntary offseason workout program and organized team activity practices. The Titans concluded their sixth week of the nine-week program and third of 10 OTAs on Friday.

Britt said he’s enjoyed the changes that new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has made to Tennessee’s playbook and the passion that receivers coach Shawn Jefferson has brought with intensity in the classroom and on the field.

“I’m excited about this year,” Britt said. “We tossed out the whole playbook from last year and have a totally different new one. It’s a little confusing at first but everybody got into it because everybody’s focused better, and I’m excited about that because there really weren’t that many mental mistakes out there that you’d expect in the first few days, especially to see the young rookies go out there and execute what they’re supposed to do.”

Known for a bouncing personality, Britt showed he’s maintained his sense of humor. When asked about his health, he said that he’s feeling good and joked, “I hope I look good.”

Titans quarterback Jake Locker said teammates are encouraged by Britt’s progress. This week was the first in which the offense could go against the defense in team drills and wear helmets, but pads and contact were not allowed.

“I think Kenny is doing a good job. He’s still coming back a little bit but playing really hard,” Locker said. “I’m really excited for him to have the opportunity to get back out there. I think you guys saw a little bit today. He’s explosive, he looks great and is in great shape. We expect him to continue progressing and be that kind of special player.”
