Titans Agree To Terms with LB Shaun Phillips

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent LB Shaun Phillips on a multi-year contract.

“Shaun is an athletic pass rusher, who has been a productive player his entire career,” said Titans general manager Ruston Webster. “His flexibility is an asset as well – being raised as a 3-4 linebacker and having success in as a 4-3 end last year. He will add to our mix of pass rushers and improves that group from a production and experience standpoint.”

A 10-year NFL veteran, Phillips (6-3, 255) has totaled 79.5 sacks, 22 forced fumbles and a 2010 Pro Bowl selection during his 152-game NFL career. His sack total ranks ninth among NFL players over the last 10 seasons. Last year, Phillips played in all 16 games and posted 10.0 sacks, 36 tackles, one interception, five passes defensed and two forced fumbles in his first season with the AFC Champion Denver Broncos. It was the third time in his career that he registered a double-digit sack total (2006, 2010, 2013). A durable player, Phillips has only missed eight games during his 10-year career.

Before joining the Broncos, Phillips spent the first nine seasons (2004-2012) of his career with the San Diego Chargers. He played in 136 games in a Chargers uniform and ranks second in franchise history in sacks (69.5). He posted a career-high sack total (11.5) in 2006, a career-high and NFL-best seven forced fumbles in 2009 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2010, after an 11.0-sack season. The 2010 Chargers defense finished the season first overall in total defense (yards allowed). During his time in San Diego, his teams advanced to the postseason five times.

Phillips was a fourth-round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Chargers. He played his college football at Purdue, where he left as the school’s all-time leader in sacks (33.5).
