NASHVILLE, Tenn. --** The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with safety Bernard Pollard on a multi-year contract.

Pollard was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of free agency on March 11.

"We know where we're going to be for the next couple of years," Pollard said. "The city of Nashville and state of Tennessee have welcomed myself and my family. We feel at home here."

In Pollard's first season with the Titans in 2013, he led the team with a career-high 142 tackles, added three interceptions and half of a sack in 16 starts at strong safety.

Last year, Tennessee ranked 11th in the NFL in pass defense and 14th overall.

One of the team's captains, Pollard is a veteran of eight NFL seasons, having started 101 games and totaling 12 interceptions, nine and half sacks, 10 forced fumbles and 546 tackles during his time with four teams – Kansas City (2006-08), Houston (2009-10), Baltimore (2011-12) and Tennessee (2013).

"We were pleased with the job Bernard did for us in his first season with us last year," said Titans General Manager Ruston Webster. "Getting this deal done today helps our overall plan for this offseason. We still have work ahead of us trying to retain some of our other players, but we are glad to be able to get this one done."
