Posted Jan 7, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans completed a formal interview with Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, the team announced Tuesday.

Gruden just completed his third season as Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator and the third in which the Bengals have made the playoffs.

Prior to arriving in Cincinnati, Gruden coached seven seasons with Tampa Bay (2002-08) that included helping the Buccaneers win Super Bowl XXXVII after the 2002 season. He was offensive coordinator of the United Football League’s Florida Tuskers in 2009 and head coach of the Tuskers in 2010.

Gruden, 46, played QB four seasons at Louisville (1985-88) and played in the Arena Football League for six seasons (1991-96) with the Tampa Bay Storm, where he won four AFL titles and became the league’s all-time leading passer.

Following those seasons, Gruden was offensive coordinator for the AFL’s Nashville Kats in 1997. Gruden head coached the AFL’s Orlando Predators a total of nine seasons (1998-2001 and 2004-08) and led the team to four championship game appearances and two titles. In between, Gruden played QB for the Predators in 2002-03.

Gruden is the younger brother of ESPN analyst and former coach Jon Gruden.
