Titans Host Club Seat Members for Special Screening of 'Draft Day' Movie

Posted Mar 19, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans hosted club seat members for a special screening of Draft Day on Wednesday night at Regal Hollywood Stadium 27 and Regal Premium Experience at One Hundred Oaks.

Players said they were as interested as football fans to see the film industry’s take on the inner-workings of the NFL Draft from the events that build up to the three-day event to an illustration of the environment in which high-pressure decisions are made within a fictionalized account of the Cleveland Browns. Kevin Costner is cast as the team’s general manager, and Jennifer Garner and Denis Leary co-star in the movie that opens nationally on April 11, a month before the 2014 NFL Draft.

“I feel kind of cool,” center Brian Schwenke said of attending his first movie premier with a strong turnout of Titans fans.

“These guys love everything Titans, and to see that in the offseason is really special,” Schwenke said. “Before I was playing, I didn’t want to know anything about football, and for them to care about it is special.”

Schwenke was selected in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, finding out early on the final day of that draft that he would get the opportunity to play professionally.

“It’s long. It’s probably not bad for those guys that get drafted in the first round, but having to wait until the next day, it was just that night was rough,” Schwenke said. “You didn’t know what was going to happen, but anything could happen. It’s a long process. It’s not like you get that call, ‘Hey, we’re going to draft you here and you’ll see it on TV, just wait.’ I kind of wish it was like that, a little rough, but it’s cool.”

Zaviar Gooden, a third-round pick who heard his name called late the night before Schenke’s, said he was interested in the insider’s look.

“I know it’s a lot that goes into it,” Gooden said. “Coaches do the time of studying every single player from the interview process to the film room, so it’s going to be interesting to see the other side of it that I wasn’t on.”

Beau Brinkley didn’t hear his name called during the 2012 draft but was grateful when he received a phone call with an opportunity to sign with the Titans as a free agent. Brinkley shared interest in the film’s portrayal of the process.

“That’s the nature of the business, which fans will kind of see behind the scenes of what really goes on in that situation and those things during the draft,” Brinkley said. “It shows a lot of good players and bad players on the board, how they rank players and who they want, the best on the board. It’s crazy to think of.”
