Titans Name Todd Toriscelli Director of Sports Medicine

Posted Feb 7, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans have hired Todd Toriscelli as their Director of Sports Medicine.

Toriscelli joins the Titans after 17 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The last four seasons he held the title of Director of Sports Medicine and Performance after 13 years as the Head Athletic Trainer.

“I have known Todd for nearly 20 years and have a great deal of respect for the work he has done through the years,” said Ruston Webster, Titans General Manager. “He is organized, professional and has a wide-range of knowledge from his years in the field. He also has respect within the athletic training world as many of his former assistants have gone on to become head trainers in the NFL and college.”

Toriscelli joined the Buccaneers in 1997, after seven years as a head athletic trainer in the college ranks, split between Stanford, Miami (Fla.) and Kansas State. While with the Buccaneers, Toriscelli was involved in research projects on dehydration and exercise in the heat with scientists from the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. He also completed a large research project on hamstring injuries and other injury-related topics among NFL players. He has published many articles and lectured on topics related to sports medicine. In 2011, Toriscelli was named to the NFL Health and Safety Panel. During his Tampa Bay tenure, eight former Buccaneer assistants or intern athletic trainers have gone on to become head athletic trainers at the professional or major college level.

While at Stanford (1995-96), Toriscelli served as the National Athletic Trainers Association’s liaison to the NCAA Football Rules Committee.

A native Steubenville, Ohio, Toriscelli received his undergraduate degree from Ohio University and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. In 2009, he was selected as a Distinguished Alumnus by the Ohio University School of Health Sciences and Professions.

Toriscelli and his wife, Chris, have a daughter, Jenna, and a son, Shane.
