Titans-Vikings Flashback: CJ's First Two Rushing TDs

Posted Oct 6, 2012

Each week this season, Titans Online is taking a look back at a game in franchise history against the upcoming opponent.

Sept. 28, 2008: Titans 30, Vikings 17

This flashback between rare opponents goes back to Chris Johnson’s rookie season and his first two career rushing touchdowns in the 11th overall and most recent meeting between the teams.

Johnson responded to his first showdown with second-year pro Adrian Peterson with 61 tough yards on 17 carries and two of the Titans’ three touchdowns. They were the first two scores of his career, and the second TD immediately followed an interception of Gus Frerotte that Nick Harper returned 11 yards to the Minnesota six-yard line.

The interception of Frerotte with less than four minutes remaining was one of four turnovers the Titans forced in the game as Tennessee started 4-0 in the midst of winning its first 10 games of the season to set a franchise record.

In addition to Harper’s interception, the Titans also took the ball on fumble recoveries by Tony Brown, Keith Bulluck and Stephen Tulloch. Frerotte, Peterson and Naufahu Tahi committed the fumbles.

Peterson scored both of the Vikings’ touchdowns, including a 28-yarder that was the longest run of the game.

The Titans recorded four sacks, with Albert Haynesworth claiming two of them, Brown recording 1.5 and Kyle Vanden Bosch picking up the other half sack.

Kerry Collins completed 18 of 35 passes for 199 yards, and Justin Gage led all receivers with 92 yards on five catches.
