Training Camp Notebook: Friday's Quick Hits

Posted Aug 1, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Let’s get right into it. Here are your biggest moments from Titans practice on Friday:

• NFL officials spent time with the players today in meetings and at practice to help educate them on new rule changes for the 2014 season. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt noted after practice that he found the entire process beneficial for his club.

Justin Hunter had a monster day, catching two deep balls from Charlie Whitehurst as well as making an acrobatic catch in the end zone, reaching over cornerback Khalid Wooten to make the grab.

• Cornerback Jason McCourty also had a nice day covering the team’s top targets. He broke up a pass intended for Kendall Wright and also defended a pass intended for Justin Hunter in the end zone – a tall task indeed.

Jake Locker looked sharp all day. He didn’t miss a throw in the 1v1 red zone portion. While there’s a clear advantage for the offense with no pass rush, it’s a good sign to see Locker on the same page with all of his weapons.

• The team worked on situational drills, including the hurry-up offense. The first team (Locker and co.) marched down the field to set up a field goal attempt. He completed passes to Hunter (x2), Delanie Walker, and Nate Washington in the process.

• We got another look at both kickers today during the two-minute drill. Each kicker had three attempts. Maikon Bonani went 2/3 connecting from 46 and 34 but missing from 37 yards. Travis Coons made all three of his attempts from 38, 35, and 48 yards.

Coty Sensabaugh intercepted Jake Locker on a deep ball intended for Kendall Wright.

• Linebacker Derrick Morgan continued to impress, batting a ball down at the line of scrimmage during team drills.

• The team heads to LP Field for a closed practice on Saturday. There will be plenty of game situations and both the first and second teams will get a 12-play drive, per Whisenhunt. He also hopes that the kickers will get another three to four attempts. Everyone is excited for a change in environment with the first game just one week from tomorrow.
