Blidi Wreh-Wilson Anxious for First Action of Preseason

Titans cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson anxious to get first action of preseason.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans cornerback Blidi Wreh-Wilson worked his way back from an injury this offseason, only to be sidelined again during the first part of training camp.

Now, the second-year pro is on the verge of taking the field again. He can hardly wait.

“I need the reps,’’ Wreh-Wilson said on Tuesday. “I’m looking forward to getting back out there and helping the team out.”

Wreh-Wilson, who started 11 games last season, rehabbed from shoulder surgery during the offseason, and after missing OTAs, he was back for the start of training camp. He got off to a nice start, and was running with the early group in practices.

Then Wreh-Wilson suffered a high ankle sprain in the team’s practice at Nissan Stadium on August 8. He was shut down, and has missed all three preseason contests.

Wreh-Wilson is expected to play on Thursday night against the Vikings, however.

“I think it’s good to get some game-speed reps,’’ coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “Practice is what practice is, but to get him in the game is an important piece of it, so we feel good about Blidi trending towards playing. We expect him to play, I don’t see a setback towards that, so that will be good.”

The Titans need the bodies.

Veteran cornerback Jason McCourty has been sidelined all preseason with a groin injury, leaving Perrish Cox, Coty Sensabaugh and Cody Riggs working with the first unit in nickel packages.

“We are definitely going to have to have some guys pick up his load, his weight, because he is one of those guys who is a leader and he’s played a lot of football and you can learn a lot from a guy like that,’’ Wreh-Wilson said of McCourty. ”I am working my way back one day at a time and hopefully I’ll be back out there.”
