Continental championship to be played across 15 venues in 13 U.S. metropolitan cities, including Nashville.

NASHVILLE, Tenn — The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) today announced that Nashville will be one of 15 markets that will welcome the 2019 edition of the Concacaf Gold Cup summer of 2019. The games scheduled to be played in countries outside of the US, Canada, and Mexico will be announced at a later date.

The Concacaf Gold Cup is the premier regional soccer championship that crowns the best national team in North, Central America and the Caribbean, featuring some of the hemisphere’s best players and teams.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Gold Cup back to Nashville next year,” Nashville Mayor David Briley said. “Soccer is growing and thriving here, and Concacaf and its teams and fans will get the same warm welcome all our visitors receive – plus a lot of loud cheers and chants ringing through Nissan Stadium. The Gold Cup will be another great showcase for ‘the beautiful game’ in our beautiful city.”

“This is another big day for Nissan Stadium and Nashville as we are selected as a Gold Cup venue for 2019,” said Bob Flynn, Titans Vice President of Facilities and Game Day Operations. “We had a great crowd (47,622) for our Gold Cup match-day last year and earned the right to host again. This is the marquee event for soccer in this region of the world and we are eager to welcome the international community to Nashville and Nissan Stadium. We take great pride in being able to host these world-class teams and look forward to putting on another great soccer event.”

“We are honored to have the Gold Cup competition return,” said Butch Spyridon, President and CEO, Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. “CONCACAF’s confidence in Nashville does not go unnoticed and we will not disappoint!”

For the upcoming edition of the Gold Cup, Concacaf, which previously announced an expanded format to include 16 nations in the biannual championship, has taken steps to expand the tournament to countries in the Concacaf region, allowing more fans across the to take part in the continental championship first-hand. Besides the first-time international markets which will make the tournament accessible to fans in those countries, the 2019 Gold Cup will feature three first-time hosts in the U.S. territory:

Complete groups and schedule, including selection of dates and assignment of matches for the knockout round and the awarding of the Final, will be announced next year.

Canada, Mexico and the United States automatically qualify for the Gold Cup in representation of North America.

The additional participating nations in the 2019 Gold Cup will qualify through Concacaf Nations League Qualifier competition, to be played in September, October, and November of 2018, and March of 2019.
