Marcus Mariota Thanks Nashville, Titans Fans for Support

Posted Feb 22, 2017

QB Marcus Mariota thanks Nashville — and Titans fans — for support.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota thanked the team’s fans in a video message during Wednesday’s Tailgate & Tuxedos season ticket member event.

A bearded Mariota said he’s recovering from December’s surgery on a fractured fibula, and said he’s looking forward to the 2017 season.

“I wish I could be there with you guys to relive the 2016 season,’’ Mariota said in the video. “It was an incredible one filled with a lot of fun moments. I am currently here in Oregon, getting healthy and going through my recovery process. I look forward to getting back to Nashville, and getting the 2017 season under way.

“I think it is going to be a great one.”

Mariota completed 276-of-451 passes for 3,426 yards, 26 touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 95.6 passer in 2016 before suffering a fractured fibula in a Week 16 contest at Jacksonville. The quarterback added 60 rushing attempts for 349 yards and two touchdowns.

While his availability for the offseason work remains uncertain, Mariota is expected to be ready for training camp.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said he talked to Mariota earlier in the day. He said he's “doing very well” and is “on pace.”

“The most important thing for us is to make sure that he's healthy for Week 1,” Titans General Manager Jon Robinson said of Mariota.

During Wednesday night’s event at the Music City Center, Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk gave away free season tickets to a fan. Later, Robinson and Mularkey awarded a season ticket holder a trip to the 2017 NFL Draft.

When the team presented awards, Ryan Succop’s 53-yard field goal to beat the Chiefs was named the Moment of the Year. Running back DeMarco Murray's pass to tight end Delanie Walker against the Packers was named the Offensive Play of the Year, while the defense’s goal-line stand in the win at Kansas City was the Defensive Play of the Year.

The Titans surprised Tim Shaw by naming him the Most Inspirational Player. Shaw, diagnosed with ALS in 2014, has a locker at Saint Thomas Sports Park and has been a regular around the team since signing a contract, and retiring a “Titan for Life” prior to the season.

“He is a vital part of this team,’’ Mariota said of Shaw, “and an incredible inspiration to all of us.”

At the end of the one-minute video clip, Mariota thanked the team’s fans for their support.

“I would also like to say thank you to the Titans fans, and the entire Nashville community,’’ Mariota said. “Your support has been overwhelming and it is a privilege to play for you guys. Thank you for being the best fans, and I can’t wait ‘til next season.”
