Mularkey: Titans Have Two Starters in RBs Murray, Henry

Posted Nov 30, 2017

Titans coach Mike Mularkey likes both his running backs – DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry -- and plans to continue using them as a one-two punch.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – DeMarco Murray or Derrick Henry?

In the mind of Titans coach Mike Mularkey, there’s more than one answer to that question. Mularkey likes both his running backs, and plans to continue using them as a one-two punch.

“I think the way it has worked out, it has worked just fine,” Mularkey said on Thursday. “I think we have two starters, and if somebody wants to just line up on the first play of the game to justify, ‘This guy is the starter,’ I don’t know. It is not something we are worried about.

“They are both really good at what they do.”

On the season, Henry leads the team with 520 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 114 carries. He’s coming off a game when he ran for 79 yards in the fourth quarter as the Titans beat the Colts.

Murray has 452 yards and five touchdowns on the year, on 129 carries. Murray is fourth on the team with 31 receptions, for 225 yards and another score.

Murray didn’t practice on Thursday because of an illness.

Henry said he hopes to keep the momentum going this Sunday against the Texans.

“We preach on being physical, being the most physical team,” Henry said. “You just have to dominate the guy across from you and have that will to do that. … We just have to make a play. Everybody block their man, man on man, and get the ball and make a play.

“We just want to come out here and compete, and get better, and have that carry over into the game this weekend.”

Henry will be decked out in special cleats this week to bring awareness to the American Cancer Society.

It’s part of the NFL My Cause, My Cleats campaign.

“I will have my three family members – my aunt Brenda, my uncle Bubba and my grandad Johnny on (the cleats),” Henry said. “I want to raise more awareness, and let people know who are fighting right now I am thinking about them and praying for them.”
