Three Quick Hits from Wednesday's Practice

Posted Dec 28, 2016

TitansOnline.com Senior Writer and Editor Jim Wyatt offers three quick hits from Wednesday's practice at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans just wrapped up practice on Wednesday at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

On Sunday, the team will face the Houston Texans.

Three quick hits after today’s practice:

Mariota surgery

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota had successful surgery late Wednesday.

The team released a statement late in the day which read:

"The surgery on Marcus Mariota’s fractured fibula was completed late this afternoon and, from those involved, considered a success."

Mariota’s surgery was done in Charlotte, N.C., to repair the fractured right fibula he suffered in Saturday’s loss to the Jaguars. Mariota is expected to be sidelined roughly 4-5 months following the procedure. Dr. Robert Anderson performed the surgery, and inserted a plate where the fracture is located.

Defensive lineman Karl Klug was also scheduled for surgery this afternoon.

Woods ready

Titans nose tackle Antwaun Woods has been waiting for his chance. It looks like it will come on Sunday.

The Titans promoted Woods from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Wednesday. Titans coach Mike Mularkey indicated he should get a chance to play on Sunday against the Texans.

“Basically I just want to go out there and show what I can do to help the team,’’ Woods said. “I have just tried to be patient, and trust the process, and wait my turn. Me being a competitor, I want to play. Hopefully I am fortunate enough to play on Sunday.”

A four-year starter at Southern California, Woods (6-1, 318) signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent this year following the draft. He totaled 113 career tackles, eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss at USC.

Injuries

Cornerback Jason McCourty (chest/shoulder) and linebacker Sean Spence (illness) did not practice on Wednesday.

“I am getting a lot better, and just taking it day-by-day,’’ McCourty said. “Hopefully tomorrow feels better than today and I can progress and do some more.”

Cornerback LeShaun Sims practiced on Wednesday, but remains in the concussion protocol.
