Titans Add former Cardinals Safety Rashad Johnson

Posted Mar 25, 2016

The Titans add a playmaker to their secondary, agreeing to terms with former Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans began the offseason looking for more playmakers in the defensive secondary.
The team has found one in former Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson.
The Titans have agreed to terms on a contract with Johnson. The seven-year pro has recorded 15 interceptions in his career, including nine in the last two seasons.
Johnson started 30 games for the Cardinals over the last two seasons, and he’s played in at least 10 games for Arizona since entering the league as a third-round pick from Alabama in 2009.
Johnson had five interceptions in 2015, and four in 2014, when he also recorded a career high with 92 tackles. Johnson also returned two interceptions for touchdowns during the 2014 season, including an 88-yarder against the Falcons in Week 13.
Johnson brings leadership qualities to the secondary. He’ll play alongside safety Da’Norris Searcy, who was signed last offseason after playing previously with the Bills.
Last month, the Titans released long-time safety Michael Griffin, who ended up signing with the Vikings.
Earlier this month, the Titans signed former Dolphins cornerback Brice McCain and former Steelers cornerback Antwon Blake. The team also returns cornerbacks Jason McCourty, Perrish Cox, Cody Riggs and B.W. Webb at cornerback, in addition to safety Daimion Stafford and defensive back Marqueston Huff.
Johnson was a two-year starter at Alabama, where he served as a team captain twice (as a junior and senior).
