The Titans have agreed to terms with linebacker Will Compton, who has played in 57 games, with 33 starts, in his first five NFL seasons.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans have agreed to terms with former Redskins linebacker Will Compton.

Compton, who visited the team last month, will compete for a spot inside for the Titans.

Compton has played in 57 games, with 33 starts, during his five-year NFL career. The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder initially joined the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Nebraska in 2013.

Compton was a full-time starter for the Redskins in 2015 and 2016. He started 15 games in 2016, and racked up 106 tackles, five passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and an interception. He tallied 96 tackles, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery while playing in all 16 games in 2015, while making 10 starts.

Compton played in nine games, with three starts, in 2017, when he suffered a separated shoulder early in the season, and a Lisfranc sprain later in the year. He was placed on Injured Reserve. Compton collected 19 tackles, three passes defensed and an interception last season before ending the year on IR.

A defensive captain in 2016, Compton missed just one game the previous three seasons combined.

In college at Nebraska, Compton racked up 247 tackles – finishing 12th in school history – and was a two-time All-Big Ten selection.

Veteran inside linebacker Wesley Woodyard returns for the Titans in 2018, along with Jayon Brown, who played a big role during his rookie season in 2017. Nate Palmer and Daren Bates will also return and compete inside. It’s a position that could still be addressed in the draft, and free agency.

Former Titans inside linebacker Avery Williamson signed with the Jets in free agency last month.
