Titans Guard Chance Warmack Headed to Injured Reserve

Posted Sep 21, 2016

The Titans will be without starting right guard Chance Warmack after the decision was made for him to have surgery on his injured right hand.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans will be without starting right guard Chance Warmack after the decision was made for him to have surgery on his injured right hand.

Warmack tore a tendon in the hand during warmups prior to Sunday’s game in Detroit, but played in the contest.

The Titans and Warmack held discussions earlier in the week about how to proceed following the injury, and it was ultimately decided Warmack would undergo surgery and be placed on Injured Reserve.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said after practice Wednesday that Warmack made the decision to have the procedure. Mularkey indicated the surgery would likely keep Warmack from playing the rest of the season.

“We had a long discussion with him, all of his options, and he chose to have the surgery,’’ Mularkey said. “So we’ll place Chance on IR with the injury. He can return, but it’s an injury that he is going to end up having to wear a club anyhow, even when that time comes up, and that’s a tough position to play with a club.”

The Titans face the Raiders on Sunday.

Mularkey said offensive linemen Brian Schwenke or Josh Kline, who was recently claimed off waivers from the Patriots, could step in and play right guard. Veteran Dennis Kelly also has experience at guard, and the Titans also have rookie Sebastian Tretola.

Schwenke and Kline worked with the first-team offense during Wednesday’s practice, Mularkey said. A decision will be made later in the week about which one of them plays on Sunday.

Warmack, in his fourth season with the team, has started 48 games since being drafted in the first round out of Alabama in the 2013 draft.
