Titans Safety Kevin Byard Named First Team All-Pro

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans safety Kevin Byard has been named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press.

Byard, a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of MTSU, finished the season with eight interceptions, which tied for the NFL lead. His 10 takeaways – Byard also recovered two fumbles – led all NFL defenders.

Byard, snubbed for the Pro Bowl, twice was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week this season.

In addition to Byard, Titans punter Brett Kern was named second-team All-Pro following a season when he led all NFL punters in gross average (49.7) and net average (44.6) while putting 28 balls inside the 20. Last month, Kern was voted to the Pro Bowl.

Byard is coming off a two-interception game in the season finale against the Jaguars. Heading into the postseason, Byard still has an item missing from his statistical bucket list. The Titans face the Chiefs on Saturday in the AFC Wild Card round.

"I am just hoping to get into the end zone this time if I can get an interception," Byard said. "That is still on my bucket list — that is one thing I have not crossed off yet. That is my whole thing, just trying to help this team any way possible."

A year ago, Titans rookie tackle Jack Conklin was named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press.

Conklin became the first Titan to be named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press since running back Chris Johnson in 2009. He's the first Titans rookie since defensive end Jevon Kearse in 1999 to be named to the team.
