PRO: A dynamic weapon with the versatility to play wide receiver and return kicks, Chris Davis is one of the promising young contributors on the Titans roster. He uses his 5-foot-10 frame to his advantage, running precise routes and making quick cuts. His elusiveness makes him dangerous after the catch and in the open field as a returner. Through his first two NFL seasons, he appeared in 17 games and totaled seven receptions for 69 yards, 33 punt returns for 299 yards (9.1 avg.) and six kickoff returns for 156 yards (26.0 avg.). In pre-draft workouts, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds, bench pressed 291 pounds and recorded a 36-inch vertical jump. The Titans selected him with their second of two fourth-round picks (128th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.

TITANS TIDBITS:

• Davis suffered a major setback just as he was about to begin his college playing career. As one of the country’s most heralded recruits coming out of St. Petersburg (Fla.) Catholic High School, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee only two weeks prior to the start of practice as a freshman. He was granted a medical redshirt and began the arduous rehabilitation process, eventually returning to the field the following season.

• Chris, the son of Willie and Peggy Davis, lived with his grandmother, Emma Davis, from the time he was 10 years old until he finished high school along with his brother, Ryan, who is now 11 years old. Emma and her husband, Willie Sr., run their own construction business.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

2008 (5/0, 0/0): Played in five regular season games, did not play in two contests and was inactive nine times. Totaled two receptions for 31 yards, two punt returns for six yards and four kickoff returns for 119 yards (29.8 avg.).

• Against Houston (9/21), recorded career-long reception of 21 yards during first-quarter touchdown drive.

• At Baltimore (10/5), extended game-winning drive in fourth quarter with 10-yard reception on third-and-three.

• At Indianapolis (12/28), set season high with four kickoff returns for 119 yards.

2007 (12/0, 1/0): Played in 12 regular season games and was inactive in four contests. Totaled five receptions for 38 yards and added 31 punt returns for 293 yards. Ranked seventh in AFC (ninth in NFL) with 9.5-yard punt return average. Also contributed two kickoff returns for 37 yards.

• At Jacksonville (9/9), made NFL debut and hauled in his first career NFL reception, an eight-yard pass from Vince Young. Also scampered for 17 yards on punt return.

• Against Indianapolis (9/16), grabbed season-high three receptions for 17 yards.

• Against Atlanta (10/7), returned a punt 28 yards to Titans’ 45-yard line in second quarter and later picked up first down with 14-yard rush.

• Against Carolina (11/4), returned season-high five punts for 59 yards, including 39-yard return to set up score in first quarter.

• In Wild Card Game at San Diego (1/6), caught two passes for 11 yards, returned two punts for 15 yards and took reverse for 11-yard run.

COLLEGE:

• Played in 51 games with a total of 22 starts for Seminoles. He accumulated 137 receptions (tied for fifth in school history) for 1,842 yards (13.4 avg.) and 12 touchdowns. Added 22 career rushing attempts for 70 yards and one touchdown and returned 46 punts for 361 yards (7.8 avg.).

• As a senior (2006), led team in receiving for second consecutive season. Played all 13 games with nine starts and recorded 49 receptions for 684 yards and four touchdowns. Also led squad with 26 punt returns for 224 yards (8.6 avg.) and added five rushing attempts for 28 yards and one touchdown.

• As a junior (2005), started 12 games and led team with career-high 51 receptions for 666 yards (13.1 avg.) and career-high five touchdowns.

• Received medical redshirt in 2002.

• Majored in social science.

PERSONAL:

• Single, splits time between Nashville and St. Petersburg, Fla.

• Named first-team All-USA Today, Parade All-American, PrepStar Dream Team member and Rivals.com’s second-best prep athlete in nation while at St. Petersburg (Fla.) Catholic High School. Played quarterback, defensive back and wide receiver during career. As senior quarterback, totaled 3,110 yards of offense, combining 1,580 passing yards and 1,530 rushing yards.

• Also lettered three times in basketball and two years in track & field, competing in long jump, 4x100 and 4x400 events.
