Biography

 

PRO: Chris Hawkins is a speedy cornerback who is coming off his first full season with the Titans in 2011.  He originally joined the club’s practice squad for the final two weeks of the 2010 season.  Hawkins saw action in nine games in 2011 and posted 11 tackles on defense, in addition to eight stops on special teams. Prior to his arrival in Tennessee, Hawkins spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: 
• In 2011, Hawkins saw action in nine games and tied for third on the team with eight special teams stops.  Played extensively in two games at cornerback and posted 11 tackles.

TITANS TIDBITS: 
• For his first two seasons at LSU, Hawkins was a roommate of Carolina Panthers wide receiver Brandon LaFell.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Baton Rouge, La., native was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as a rookie free agent on April 26, 2010.
• Released by the Jaguars on July 7, 2010.
• Signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent on Aug. 6, 2010 and released by the team on Sept. 4, 2010.
• Signed by the Titans to their practice squad on Dec. 21, 2010.
• Re-signed by the Titans on Jan. 4, 2011.

COLLEGE:
• Hawkins played in 51 games during his career at Louisiana State, starting 24 times and registering 110 total tackles, 19 pass breakups and five interceptions during his career.
• As a senior (2009), was the starting left cornerback and finished the season with 43 tackles, including 25 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for losses and two interceptions.  Ranked second on team with seven pass breakups.
• As a junior (2008), had a breakout season as the Tigers’ starter at right cornerback.  Started all 13 games and led the team in interceptions with three, pass breakups with nine and tied for the team lead in forced fumbles with two.  Racked up 50 tackles on the year with 0.5 tackles for loss.  Picked off two passes – the first interceptions of his career – in the comeback win at Auburn.
• As a sophomore (2007), played as a reserve in 13 games.  Was credited with 13 tackles and three passes defensed.  Also saw action on LSU’s punt return and kickoff units.
• As freshman (2006), saw action as a reserve in 12 games and posted four tackles, including three stops in the Tigers’ win over Kentucky.
• As a redshirt freshman (2005), did not see action.
• Majored in business administration at Louisiana State.
 
PERSONAL: 
• Single, splits time between Nashville and Baton Rouge, La.
• Attended Walker (La.) High School and was one of the state’s most coveted defensive back prospects, being rated as the nation’s No. 22 cornerback by ESPN and No. 9 safety by Rivals.com.
• Was a member of the Baton Rouge Advocate Super Dozen, the New Orleans Times-Picayune’s Top 20 Blue-Chip list as well as the Mobile Register Super Southeast 120.
• Saw limited action as a senior due to an ankle injury.  Did manage to rack up 1,397 yards and 18 touchdowns as a running back and averaged 6.4 yards per carry.  Caught 10 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns as a wide receiver.
• Had productive junior and sophomore campaigns tallying over 2,400 all-purpose yards.
• Earned letters in track and basketball.  Competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump in track.  Was timed at 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
