Biography

 
PRO: The Titans signed Gabe Ikard as a rookie free agent on May 12, 2014 to provide depth at the center position.  The 6-foot-4-inch, 304-pounder is a skilled lineman who received numerous collegiate awards and recognition for his play in the middle of the offensive front.  The University of Oklahoma product spent his entire rookie campaign on the Titans’ injured reserve list after suffering a knee injury at the end of the preseason.

•    Ikard was named the 2014 Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year for sportsmanship, community service and academic achievement.
•    Ikard is a worldly individual.  He participated in a study abroad program in Ireland in 2013 and traveled to Haiti on a humanitarian trip in 2012.  He also made mission trips to Peru in 2005 and 2006.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
•    A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ikard was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014.
•    Waived injured by the Titans on Aug. 26, 2014 and placed on the team’s injured reserve list.

COLLEGE:
•    Played in 52 games with 50 starts at Oklahoma - 18 starts at left guard and 32 at center.  Was on the field for a total of 3,410 offensive snaps.
•    As a senior (2013), started all 13 games at center, recording 97 knockdowns in 942 plays.  Helped the Sooners rank 18th in the nation in rushing (2,911 yards), as he delivered 10 touchdown-resulting blocks.
•    Named the Capital One Academic All-Amercian of the Year and won the Wuerffel Trophy and Selmon Spirit Award.  Won the team’s Don Key Award, won Pat Tillman Award at the East-West Shrine Game.
•    Was an unanimous All-Conference choice and earned first-team All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association, CBS Sports and Walter Camp, in addition to receiving second-team accolades from Associated Press and third-team honors from The NFL Draft Report.  Was a Rimington Trophy finalist.
•    As a junior (2012), started 12 games at center and led the team with 82 knockdowns on 929 snaps.  Earned All-Big 12 Conference first-team honors from the league’s coaches, Associated Press, The NFL Draft Report, Dallas Morning News, San Antonio Express-News, Waco Tribune-Herald and
ESPN.com.  Named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.
•    As a sophomore (2011), started the team’s first three games at left guard before sliding over to center for seven contests.  Returned to left guard for the final three games of the season.  Earned third-team AP All-American honors and first-team AP All-Conference honors.
•    As a redshirt freshman (2010), started at left guard in the final 12 games of the season while playing in all 14 contests.  Earned honorable mention All-Big 12 by Associated Press and was named first-team Academic All-Big 12.
•    Redshirted during the 2009 season.
•    Graduated from Oklahoma in May 2013 with a 4.0 GPA in multidisciplinary studies with a focus in medical sciences.  Began graduate school.

PERSONAL:  
•    Attended Bishop McGuinness (Oklahoma City, Okla.) High School, lettering four times in football and starting at tight end and defensive end in all four seasons.  Helped his high school football team capture two state championships.
•    Accounted for 29 receptions for 542 yards and nine touchdowns in 2008, and also recorded 68 tackles and two interceptions, including six sacks.
•    Four-year starter and three-time state champion in basketball.
•    Last name pronounced EYE-kerd.
