PRO: Justin Staples is a versatile linebacker that has the ability to play both inside and outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme.  The 6-foot-4-inch, 245-pounder has excelled on special teams coverage units in his first two seasons with the Titans.  Tennessee originally added Staples from their practice squad to the active roster on Nov. 20, 2014.  The 6-foot-4-inch, 245-pounder entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns in 2013 and spent parts of his rookie campaign on the team’s practice squad.

TITANS TIDBITS:  
•    Staples is related to Roebuck “Pops” Staples of the famed soul/R&B group The Staples Singers.
•    Staples is the second oldest of nine siblings.  He grew up in Berea, Ohio, down the street from the Cleveland Browns’ practice facility.
•    On senior day at Illinois in 2012, Staples wore jersey number 61 instead of his usual 54 to honor his late father Lenson.  Lenson played football at Northwestern before transferring to Missouri in 1983-84, when he wore No. 61 for the Tigers.  Lenson died in August 2010, just one month before Illinois played Missouri for the final time in their Arch Rivalry Series.

•     In 2011, played in all 13 games with one start as a junior and posted 16 tackles, one sack and two pass breakups in 2011.
•     Played in all 13 games, with three starts, at the bandit position in 2010 an totaled 26 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup.
•     In 2009, played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman, primarily on special teams and forced a fumble against Ohio State.
•    Majored in sociology at Illinois.

•    Also played forward on St. Edward’s basketball team, as well as Ohio AAU teams.
