Biography

PRO: Mehdi Abdesmad was originally signed by the Titans as a rookie free agent following the 2016 NFL Draft.  The 6-foot-6-inch, 284-pounder spent the first 14 weeks of his rookie campaign on the Titans’ practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on Dec. 12, 2016 to provide depth on the defensive front.  The Boston College product saw action in 39 career games for the Eagles and posted 98 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss during his collegiate career.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:  
•    He made his NFL debut in a dramatic victory at Kansas City on Dec. 18, 2016 and played in two total games as a rookie.

•    Abdesmad’s first language is French.  He did not begin learning English until he went to Boston College in 2011.
•    His parents, Sihame and the late Montacer Abdesmad, were born in Tunisia and later moved to Montreal.

•    The Montreal, Quebec, native was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2016.
•    Waived by the Titans on Sept. 4, 2016 and signed to the team’s practice squad two days later.
•    Signed by the Titans from their practice squad to the active roster on Dec. 12, 2016.

COLLEGE:
•    Appeared in 39 career games at Boston College despite a knee injury that sidelined him for most of two seasons.  Recorded 98 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery during his career.
•    As a senior (2015), returned from injury to play in all 12 games and start nine.  Recorded 5.5 sacks, 49 tackles and 15 tackles for loss as a member of the No. 1 defense in the nation.  Was voted All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mention by the league’s head coaches and earned the team’s Coaches Award.
•    Named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for play against Maine as a senior (9/5/15), tallying a career-high 1.5 sacks and a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss.
•    As a redshirt junior (2014), saw action in three games, starting the first two, before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
•    As a junior (2013), started the first four games of the season at left defensive tackle.  Missed the final nine games of the season because of left knee injury suffered against Florida State (9/28) and received a medical redshirt.  Registered 17 tackles, including nine solo tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
•    As a sophomore (2012), played in 11 games, making eight starts and recorded 25 tackles on the year.
•    As a freshman (2011), played in eight games while missing the final three games of season.
•    Graduated with a finance degree from Boston College.
