Biography

 
PRO: Xavier Adibi (pronounced Ah-DEE-bee) is a veteran linebacker that was signed by the Titans on Oct. 24, 2012 to provide depth and experience in the Titans’ linebacking corps following Zac Diles’ season-ending injury.  The 6-foot-2-inch, 242-pounder has experience at weakside linebacker and on special teams units.  Prior to arriving in Tennessee, Adibi spent time with the Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings and the 2012 training camp with the Chicago Bears.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•    As a rookie in 2008, was named to the Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie team and The Sporting News All-Rookie team after playiing seven games with five starts and posting 34 tackles.

•    Adibi’s older brother, Nathaniel, was a standout defensive end for Virginia Tech. Their father, Abiodun Adibi, was a college soccer player at Oklahoma State and is a professor at Hampton University.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:  
•    The Hampton, Va., native was originally selected by the Houston Texans in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
•    Released by the Texans on Sept. 3, 2011.
•    Claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 4, 2011.
•    Signed by the Chicago Bears as an unrestricted free agent on Aug. 11, 2012 and released by the team on Aug. 31, 2012.
•    Signed by the Titans as a free agent on Oct. 24, 2012.

COLLEGE:
•    Started 40 of 47 contests at Virginia Tech and recorded 291 tackles with 11 sacks for minus 34 yards.  In his career, caused five fumbles and recovered another that he advanced 35 yards for a touchdown, deflected 12 passes and had eight interceptions for 170 yards in returns (21.2 avg) with two touchdowns.
•    Was just the second linebacker in school history to earn first-team All-American honors (2007), joining Mike Widger (1968).
• Majored in residential property management at Virginia Tech.

PERSONAL:  
•    Attended Phoebus (Hampton, Va.) High School and was named an All-American by Prep Star as a defensive lineman and an All-American by Super Prep as a linebacker.  Was selected a 2002 AAA first-team All-State selection by the Associated Press as a defensive lineman and earned first-team and Defensive Player of the Year honors on the 2002 AAA coaches All-State team.
•    Received VHSCA All-Eastern Region and Newport News Daily Press All-Star Team honors as a defensive lineman as a senior and added first-team All-Region accolades, along with picking up first-team AAA Coaches and Associated Press All-State recognition at defensive end as a junior.
•    Helped his team to back-to-back Group AAA championships, leading a Phantoms’ defense that held opponents to fewer than five points a game.
•    Born Xavier Oyekola Adibi on Oct. 18, 1984 in Stillwater, Okla.
