Biography

 
PRO: Cody Riggs was one of two Titans 2015 rookie free agents to make the club’s 53-man roster out of training camp.  The 5-foot-9-inch, 187-pounder is a hard-nosed defensive back that has experience at both cornerback and safety in college.  The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native spent his first four collegiate seasons at the University of Florida, before playing his fifth-year senior campaign at Notre Dame.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•    As a rookie in 2015, played in 11 games and registered six tackles, a stop for loss and two passes defensed.
•    As a fifth-year senior at Notre Dame, Riggs started 11 games and registered 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and four passes defensed.

•    Cody’s father, Gerald Riggs, was a three-time Pro Bowl running back during his 10-year NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins.  His older brother, Gerald Riggs, Jr., was a running back at the University of Tennessee, who played briefly with the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:  
•    The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2015.

COLLEGE:
•    Played his final collegiate season at Notre Dame and totaled 36 tackles and four passes defensed in 11 starts at cornerback.  Spent his first four seasons at the University of Florida and played in 41 games with 26 starts and amassed 107 tackles, nine passes defensed and nine tackles for loss.
•    As a fifth-year senior (2014), started 11 games at Notre Dame and registered 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, four passes defended, one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry.  Played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
•    As a senior (2013), returned from injury and started all 12 games at safety at Florida, after converting from cornerback.  Finished fourth on the team with 51 tackles and notched 10 tackles for loss and a sack.
•    As a junior (2012), saw action in two games at Florida before fracturing his foot and being sidelined for the remainder of the season.  Recorded seven tackles, one pass breakup and one forced fumble.
•    As a sophomore (2011), played in all 13 games at Florida, making 10 starts.  Registered 31 tackles, including 1.5 stops for loss and a half sack.
•    As a freshman (2010), was one of six true freshmen at Florida to play in all 13 games, while starting three contests.  Was one of the first corners to sub in on defense throughout the season and posted 18 tackles and two pass breakups.
•    Earned a bachelor’s degree in family youth and community sciences from the University of Florida in May 2014.  
•    Graduated in May 2015 from Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business with a masters of science degree in management.

PERSONAL:  
•    Attended St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) High School and was ranked No. 9 cornerback in the country by Scout.com.
•    Participated in the 2010 Under Armour All-America Game.  Recorded 25 tackles, picked off eight passes and batted down an Aquinas team-record 24 others during his senior season.  Received honorable mention for defensive backs at the U.S. Army National All-Combine.
•    Had 25 tackles and eight interceptions during his junior season.
•    Also ran track in high school and was the 2010 Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year in Florida.
•    Was a three-time state champion in the 300m hurdles (2008-10) and 2009 state champion in the long jump.
•    Was raised by his mother, Kimberly Armenteros, his stepdad, Alex Armenteros, and his aunt, Lisa Brown.
