Biography

 
PRO: Jason Schepler was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the San Francisco 49ers following the 2013 NFL Draft.  The 6-foot-2-inch, 262-pounder spent training camp with the 49ers before being released on the final cutdown.  The Northern Illinois product was signed by the Titans in the offseason to provide depth at the tight end and fullback spots.

TITANS TIDBITS:  
•     At Northern Illinois where he majored in electrical engineering, Schepler earned first place with his senior design group for the design and production of an interval timer.
•     Schepler’s sister, Justine, also attended Northern Illinois and was a member of the volleyball team.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:  
•    The Sycamore, Ill., native was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2013.
•    Waived by the 49ers on June 3, 2013 and re-signed by the team on June 10, 2013.
•    Waived by the 49ers on Aug. 31, 2013.
•    Signed by the Titans to a future contract on Jan. 4, 2014.

COLLEGE:
•    Played in 49 games with 26 starts for Northern Illinois, catching 14 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns in his career.
•    Selected second-team Academic All-American as a senior.  Named team captain and caught three passes for 65 yards and a touchdown, helping the Huskies earn a berth in the Orange Bowl. He served as a key blocker for Northern Illinois, which ranked 12th in the NCAA in rushing in 2012 (238.2 yds. per game).
•    In 2011, redshirted after injuring his knee during 2011 spring drills.
•    In 2010, saw action in all 14 games as NIU’s starting tight end. Totaled a career-best eight catches for 93 yards to average 11.6 yards per reception. Selected to the 2010 All-MAC third team by league coaches and was named the team’s 2010 Tight End/Fullback of the Year.
•    In 2009, played in 10 games and started four at tight end, including the first three games of the season. Slowed by an elbow injury and played with a brace over the final half of the year.  Recorded his first collegiate touchdown on a four-yard pass in NIU’s victory over Western Illinois. That was the lone catch on the season for the tight end, who is most often used as a blocker in the Huskies’ multiple set offense.
•    In 2008, saw action in 11 games as a member of special teams and as a backup tight end. Caught two passes for 15 yards. As an up-man on the kickoff unit, returned four kickoffs for 57 yards.
•    Graduated with a degree in electrical engineering with a 3.8 GPA from Northern Illinois.

PERSONAL:  
•    Was a three-year letterwinner at Sycamore (Ill.) High School.  
•    Named his team’s defensive most valuable player as a senior and helped the Spartans to the IHSA playoffs.  Named DeKalb Daily Chronicle’s 2008 Male Athlete of the Year.
•    Earned first team all-conference honors as a junior.
•    Wrestled at Sycamore, going 42-6 on the mat in his final season.  Earned all-conference honors four times as a heavyweight, where he earned all-state accolades as a junior and was a state qualifier as a senior. Holds the Sycamore record for falls in a career, and ranks third on the school’s all-time wins list.
•    Also holds the Spartan record in the discus.
•    As a senior, named a second-team Academic All-American by CoSIDA and first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
