COLLEGE: Javon Ringer enters the NFL in 2009 having thoroughly proved himself at the highest level of collegiate competition. At Michigan State, he spent four years solidifying his status as one of the top offensive players in Spartans history, a running back with workhorse pedigree as well as big-play capabilities. In 45 career games (26 starts), he became the school’s second all-time leading rusher and the Big Ten Conference’s 10th all-time leading rusher with 4,398 yards, trailing only Lorenzo White (4,887) in MSU history. Ringer reached the 100-yard rushing mark 19 times in his career, a total surpassed only by White (23) in school annals. Ringer’s 843 carries also ranked second behind White (1,082), and his 34 rushing touchdowns ranked fourth in school history. With an additional 719 receiving yards and 309 kickoff return yards, Ringer became the school’s career leader with 5,426 career all-purpose yards. In 2008, he earned first-team Associated Press All-America honors after ranking sixth in school history in rushing yards (1,447), second in carries (390), first in touchdowns (22) and third in all-purpose yards (2,051). At the NFL Scouting Combine, just five weeks after knee surgery, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds, recorded a 34-inch vertical jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 23 times. • He is the youngest of nine children in his family.

• Ringer’s upbringing provided him with two great examples of faith. His father, Eugene, is a pastor at Faith Temple Pentecostal Church of God in Dayton, and his mother, Darlene, is both a minister at the church and an accountant.

• Ringer became the second Michigan State player to lead the team in rushing for four consecutive seasons. The only other player to do so was Lorenzo White, a former first-round draft choice of the Houston Oilers, who ranks third in team history in rushing yards.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

AS A SENIOR (2008), was Doak Walker Award finalist, first-team Associated Press All-American, Walter Camp All-American, second-team Sporting News All-American, consensus All-Big Ten selection and recipient of Governor’s Award (team MVP). Ranked fourth in NCAA FBS with 1,637 rushing yards (125.9 per game) and led nation in scoring (10.15 points per game), rushing touchdowns (22) and rushing attempts (390). Led Big Ten and ranked 15th in country with 2,051 all-purpose yards (157.8 per game), including 28 receptions for 190 yards (6.8 avg.). Ran for over 100 yards in seven contests, including pair of 200-yard games.

• At Cal (8/30), set career high with 102 kickoff return yards and added 81 rushing yards.

• Against Eastern Michigan (9/6), scored career-high five rushing touchdowns, representing second-best single-game total in school history. Totaled 135 yards on 34 carries.

• Against Florida Atlantic (9/13), rushed for career-high 282 yards, posting fourth-highest single-game rushing total in school history. Added two touchdowns on 43 carries. All-purpose yardage total of 309 yards was second most in school history.

• Against Notre Dame (9/20), named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for third consecutive week after rushing for 201 yards on 39 carries (5.2 avg.) with two touchdowns. Became first Spartan to record back-to-back 200-yard rushing games.

• At Indiana (9/27), set career high with 44 carries (tied fourth in school history) for 198 yards.

• In victory at Michigan (10/25), rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries (5.2 avg.), including season-long 64-yard touchdown run.

• On Senior Day against Purdue (11/8), rushed for 121 yards, his seventh 100-yard game of season, on 32 carries in final home game.

• In Capital One Bowl against Georgia (1/1), scored touchdown to establish MSU single-season records for touchdowns (22) and points scored (132).

AS A JUNIOR (2007), named second-team All-Big Ten Conference by league's coaches and media, adding team MVP honors. Ranked fourth among Big Ten rushers with 1,447 yards on 245 attempts (5.9 avg), including six touchdown carries. Was second on squad with 35 receptions for 295 yards (8.4 avg). Ranked fifth in league while leading Spartans with 1,742 all-purpose yards (134.0 per game). Had seven 100-yard rushing games.

• At Notre Dame (9/22), began string of four consecutive 100-yard performances with 144 yards on 26 carries.

• At Wisconsin (9/29), posted 145 yards on 10 carries and set career highs with seven receptions and 88 receiving yards.

• Against Northwestern (10/6), rushed 12 times for 185 yards and set season high with three touchdowns, including career-long 80-yarder. Added 54 receiving yards.

• Against Indiana (10/13), set season and then-career high with 203 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.

• In Champs Sports Bowl against Boston College (12/28), paced team with 101 yards on 21 carries.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2006), played eight games (five starts) and led team with 497 rushing yards on 86 carries (5.8 avg.). Totaled 678 all-purpose yards. Earned Biggie Munn Award as team's Most Inspirational Player.

• Against Idaho (9/2), registered 70 rushing yards and one touchdown in first career start.

• Put up two 100-yard games: 130 yards against Eastern Michigan (9/9) and 156 yards at Pittsburgh (9/16).

AS A FRESHMAN (2005), earned Freshman All-America honorable mention from The Sporting News, adding Freshman All-Big Ten first-team honors. In 11 games (no starts), led team with 122 carries for 817 yards (6.7 avg.) and five touchdowns, second-best season total by Spartans freshman. Registered 955 all-purpose yards, including 138 receiving yards.

• Totaled four touchdowns in first two career games, scoring once against Kent State (9/3) and three times against Hawaii (9/10).

• At Illinois (9/24), set season high with 194 yards on 13 carries.

• Added triple-digit efforts with 104 yards against Northwestern (10/22) and 109 yards against Indiana (10/29).

• At Chaminade-Julienne (Dayton, Ohio) High School, was three-time All-Ohio selection and amassed 6,184 yards and 81 touchdowns in 33 games. Was Super Prep All-American selection as senior and rated among nation’s top running backs by Rivals.com (18th), Super Prep (29th) and College Football News (31st). Named to All-Midwest team by Super Prep, Prep Football Report and Prep Star.

• As high school senior, rushed for 1,790 yards and 21 touchdowns in just seven contests.

• Also lettered in track, producing personal best 10.6-second 100-meter dash.
