Biography

 
PRO: The Titans signed Quentin Groves as a free agent prior to the start of the 2014 regular season, adding a veteran to the defensive unit that has experience playing outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.  Groves has played two seasons (2012-2013) for Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton and has enjoyed great succes having posted six of his 8.5 career sacks in those campaigns.  The former Auburn product also excels on special teams coverage units having posted 29 career special teams stops.  Groves entered the league as a second-round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars before spending time with the Oakland Raiders (2010-11), Arizona Cardinals (2012) and Cleveland Browns (2013).

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:  
•     In 2013, saw action in just five games as a reserve and posted five tackles, two sacks and two quarterback pressures.
•     In 2012, Groves played in all 16 contests with seven starts for the Cardinals, setting career-highs with 41 tackles and four sacks.
•     In 2010, Groves appeared in 15 games with a career-high 12 starts for the Raiders and notched 39 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
•     As a rookie in 2008, saw action in all 16 contests as a reserve and totaled 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

•    Groves has a foundation, Quest for Greatness, which teaches sportsmanship, perseverance, and spirituality to youth through sports.
•    Groves enjoys reading autobiographies and listening to speeches of Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie, Malcolm X and Toussaint L’Ouverture.
•    Groves held two jobs in the summer while in college working in a lumberyard and as a swimming pool life guard.

•    The Greenville, Miss., native was originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
•    Traded from the Jaguars to the Oakland Raiders for a 2010 fifith-round pick on April 21, 2010.
•    Signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent on May 24, 2012.
•    Signed by the Cleveland Browns as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2013.
•    Released by the Browns on June 6, 2014.
•    Signed by the Houston Texans as a free agent on July 27, 2014 and released by the team on Aug. 30, 2014.
•    Signed by the Titans as a free agent on Sept. 1, 2014.

COLLEGE:
•    A four-year letterman at Auburn (2004-07), Groves saw action in 49 games with 23 starts, and recorded 117 tackles, 26 sacks and eight forced fumbles.
•    As a senior, posted 38 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles.  He was one of 10 finalists for the Awards and Recognition Association (ARA) Sportsmanship Award, given annually to one NCAA Division I football player who best personifies the spirit of sportsmanship.
•    As a junior, he earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors after registering 35 tackles, 9.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.
•    As a sophomore, played in all 12 games in the 2005 season, starting in three. He finished the season with 21 tackles, eight tackles for loss and six sacks.
•    As a freshman, was used part-time in the rotation at defensive end as a rushing/sack specialist and finished the season tied for third in the SEC and tied for the team lead with 7.5 sacks.  Named to The Sporting News Freshman All-American First-Team, All-SEC Freshman First-Team, Rivals.com Freshman All-America First-Team and the FWAA Freshman All-America Team.    
•    Graduated with a degree in criminology from Auburn.

PERSONAL:  
•    Married to Treska and the couple has a son, Que’Mani, and a daughter, Que’Jahh.
•    Attended Greenville-Westin (Miss.) High School where he played both defensive line and tight end in high school.
•    Also lettered in basketball and track and field where he competed in the discus and long jump.  He was also a member of the powerlifting team.
•    His wife, Treska, hails from Trinidad and was a member of Auburn’s track and field team.
