Biography

PRO: Rod Hood is an experienced cornerback who was re-signed in the offseason to compete for the starting job opposite Cortland Finnegan.  The ball-hawking veteran sustained a knee injury during May OTAs and is expected to miss the entire 2010 season.  Hood arrived in Tennessee midway through the 2009 season and tied for second on the team with three interceptions in limited playing time.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
• In his first seven seasons, Hood has returned three of his 14 career interceptions for touchdowns, including 31-yard return for a score as a member of the Titans in 2009.
• In 2009, Hood appeared in just five games for the Titans but finished tied for second on the team with three interceptions.
• In 2007, Hood won the starting cornerback job in his first season with the Cardinals and started all 16 games for the first time in his career.  He recorded a career-high five interceptions and ranked second in the NFL with 196 interception return yards.

TITANS TIDBITS:
• Hood stood just 5-foot-3-inches as a sophomore in high school, but grew to five-foot-10-inches in just one year.  Despite the growth spurt, his high school career was marred by a broken growth plate in his shoulder as a junior and by a broken ankle during his senior season.  As a result, he received no scholarship offers from Division I programs.  Eventually, he turned down Division I-AA offers to walk-on at Auburn as a wide receiver.
• Prior to entering the NFL in 2003, Hood moved in with former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Brentson Buckner, a fellow Carver High School alum.  Buckner schooled Hood on how to be a pro in the NFL, how to eat right and the proper way to work out.  Hood doubts he would be where he is today without that tutelage.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Columbia, Ga., native originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2003.
• Signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent on March 10, 2007.
• Released by the Cardinals on April 28, 2009 and signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Browns on May 26, 2009.
