Biography

PRO: The Titans signed Shaun Phillips as an unrestricted free agent to provide veteran leadership to the linebacker corps.  The 6-foot-3-inch, 255-pounder has versatility having played both defensive end and outside linebacker during his career.  The 11-year veteran is a dynamic pass rusher that has amassed 79.5 career sacks, the majority of which have come from the outside linebacker spot.  Phillips played his first nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers before leading the Denver Broncos with 10 sacks in his first year with the club in 2013.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•    Phillips has totaled at least seven sacks in eight of his first 10 seasons.  Since he entered the league in 2004, his 79.5 career sacks rank ninth in the NFL.
•     Phillips played in all 16 games for the Broncos in 2013 and led the team with 10 sacks in his first season.
•     In 2010, Phillips earned his first career Pro Bowl selection after starting all 16 games for the Chargers and topping the double-digit mark in sacks (11.0) for the second time in his career.  He was voted as the Chargers’ Defensive Player of the Year for the league’s top-ranked unit.
•     Phillips led the NFL with a career-best seven forced fumbles in 2009 while leading San Diego to its fourth consecutive AFC West title.
•     Entering 2014, Phillips has missed a total of just eight games in his first 10 campaigns and started all 16 regular-season contests in four of the last seven seasons.

TITANS TIDBITS:
•    Phillips was a tight end in high school and actually accepted a scholarship offer to attend Purdue University in part due to his desire to catch passes from quarterback Drew Brees.  Once on campus, Phillips moved over to defense and finished as the school’s all-time leader with 33.5 career sacks.
