Biography

 
PRO: Stafon Johnson is a physical runner who possesses the will and determination necessary to make it in the NFL.  The 5-foot-11-inch, 222-pounder has overcome a series of difficult setbacks to pursue his goal of playing in the NFL.  Johnson is a strong inside runner that displays good pass-catching skills out of the backfield.    

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•    As a junior at Southern California in 2008, played in all 13 games and rushed for a team-best 705 yards on 138 carries with nine touchdowns.

TITANS TIDBITS:  
•    Midway through his senior campaign at Southern California, Johnson suffered a serious throat injury when he crushed his larynx in a freak weightlifting accident.  He underwent extensive surgery that required a tracheotomy, plus a feeding tube in his stomach, and he was hospitalized several weeks.  The injury sidelined him the rest of the season, but he made a near-miraculous recovery to the point where he can speak and swallow again.  He played in the 2010 Senior Bowl and was signed by the Titans as a rookie free agent following the draft.
•    Johnson encountered more adversity during his rookie season with the Titans.  He suffered serious leg and ankle injuries in the opening preseason contest against Seattle and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.  Johnson has rehabbed vigorously throughout the offseason and is targeting a return for 2011 training camp.  
•    In 2010, Johnson was featured in The Courage in Sports award’s show on CBS.  The profile piece chronicled his return to the football field following throat and leg/ankle injuries.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:  
•    The Bellflower, Calif., native was signed by the Titans as a rookie free agent on April 30, 2010.
•    Waived injured on Aug. 17, 2010 and reverted to injured reserve.  

COLLEGE:
•    During his four-year stint at Southern California, amassed 1,552 career rushing yards, 19 career rushing touchdowns and five career 100-yard games.
•    As a senior (2009), appeared in first four games with one start and rushed for 157 yards on 32 carries with five touchdowns.  Prior to USC’s fifth game at California, he suffered a serious throat injury when he crushed his larynx in a freak weightlifting accident and missed the rest of the season.
•    As a junior (2008), played in all 13 games and rushed for a team-best 705 yards on 138 carries with nine touchdowns, while adding seven receptions for 48 yards and 33 punt returns for 305 yards.
•    As a sophomore (2007), saw action as a reserve in 11 games and finished second on the team with 673 yards on 98 carries with five touchdowns.
•    As a freshman (2006), appeared briefly in three games and ran for 17 yards on three carries.
•    Majored in sociology at Southern California.

•    Single and splits time between Nashville and Bellflower, Calif.
•    At Dorsey (Los Angeles, Calif.) High School, was named a 2005 Parade All-American after posting 2,197 yards on 247 carries with 22 touchdowns.
•    As a junior in 2004, rushed for 1,879 yards with 18 touchdowns and posted 25 tackles and three interceptions.
•    Also ran track (with a best of 10.7 in the 100 meters) at Dorsey, where his father, Stan Johnson, was a long-time assistant track coach.
•    Born Stafon Dazz Johnson on Feb. 6, 1988 in Compton, Calif.
