Biography

PRO: Early in the 2017 NFL’s unrestricted free agency period, the Titans reached a deal to bring former Denver Broncos nose tackle Sylvester Williams to Tennessee.  The University of North Carolina product was originally drafted by the Broncos in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.  The massive 6-foot-2-inch, 313-pound lineman provides stability and a run-stuffing presence in the middle of the Titans defensive line.  He appeared in 60 games (48 starts) in four seasons in Denver and was a key member of the Super Bowl 50 Championship squad.  A permanent starter from 2014-16, Williams helped the Broncos defense rank eighth in the NFL in rushing yards allowed during that time, surrendering only 97.9 yards per game on the ground.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•    During his first four NFL seasons in Denver, Williams played in 60 games in the regular season and seven postseason contests.  His regular season totals with the Broncos included 64 tackles, 4.5 sacks, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one blocked field goal.
•    In 2015, Williams helped the Broncos defense finish first overall in the NFL (283.1 yards per game) en route to winning Super Bowl 50.
•    In 2014, Williams helped the Broncos defense finish second against the run and set a franchise record for opponents’ average rushing yards per game (79.8).

TITANS TIDBITS:
•    After high school, Williams, who only played one season of football in high school, worked the night shift at Modine Manufacturing Company in Jefferson City, Mo., making radiator parts for large trucks before enrolling in college.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
•    The Jefferson City, Mo., native was originally selected by the Denver Broncos in the first round (28th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
•    Signed by the Titans as an unrestricted free agent on March 14, 2017.

COLLEGE:
•    Started all 45 games played during his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina (2011-12) and Coffeyville Community College (2009-10), totaling 184 tackles (84 solo), 15.5 sacks, one interception, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four blocked kicks.
•    Named a first-team All-America and All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection following his senior campaign for the Tar Heels in which his six sacks tied for the league lead among defensive tackles.
•    Started all 13 games in his first season at North Carolina in 2011 and was the recipient of the team’s Jeffrey Cowell Memorial Award given to the outstanding first-year player for the defense.
•    Opened all 20 contests at Coffeyville C.C., working his way up from a walk-on in 2009 to a first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference pick in 2010.
•    Graduated from North Carolina with a degree in communications.

PERSONAL:
•    Played just one season of prep football at Jefferson City (Mo.) High School, making the team as a 310-pound senior and helping the school achieve a final ranking of No. 12 in the state and win the Freelance Football League title.
