NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is training with a familiar face this week in Los Angeles.

Mariota and Titans receiver Tajae Sharpe are working out together in California, building chemistry heading into the 2018 season. Mariota threw passes as Sharpe ran routes on Tuesday and Wednesday, and they’re scheduled to work out together again on Thursday and Friday.

Mariota told Titans Online last month he planned to spend time in California as part of his offseason schedule. Sharpe has worked out in California in recent offseasons, and this week the two decided to train together after communicating. They spent roughly five hours on the field and in workouts together on Wednesday after working out roughly three hours on Tuesday.

There’s a chance other receivers could join them for work in California, and later in the offseason, something that’s taken place in years past. A year ago Mariota was recovering from a fractured fibula, so his on-field work didn’t begin until much later in the offseason.

The Titans are scheduled to begin their offseason program on April 9 at Saint Thomas Sports Park. The team will conduct a veteran minicamp under new head coach Mike Vrabel in April before the team kicks off organized team activities in May.

Sharpe has made a nice recovery from a foot injury that resulted in him being placed on Injured Reserve in 2017. A fifth-round draft pick by the team in 2016, Sharpe caught 41 passes for 522 yards and two touchdowns during his rookie season. Sharpe posted a video of himself going through an on-field workout on social media earlier this week which included him catching passes, running stairs and working in a sandpit.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson was asked about Sharpe at the NFL Combine last week. The GM said he’s also been pleased with Sharpe’s work ethic.

“Unfortunate that he had the injury and missed last year, he had a pretty successful rookie season. We’re looking forward to getting him back out there,” Robinson said of Sharpe. “I know he is working hard. He was in there lifting and trying to get stronger.”
