NFL Network's Charles Davis Thinks Titans Receiver A.J. Brown Could Be Special

NASHVILLE – NFL Network analyst Charles Davis thinks the Titans got a special talent in receiver A.J. Brown.

Just how special? Well, it should be fun to find out, he said.

"I wasn't sure about a 230-pound slot receiver. I mean, let's be frank about it," Davis said of the Ole Miss product. "We're used to slot receivers being waterbug guys. But he's going to be a little bit like a guy who is in the Hall of Fame, a guy who played with the Buffalo Bills, a guy by the name of Andre Reed.

"Now he has a ways to go to be Andre Reed. But he's a thicker version of him, with good hands, and he's an excellent route runner. He can maneuver in traffic. I like that pick a lot. And you know what he does? He helps a quarterback like Marcus Mariota who likes to throw to tight ends. Delanie Walker is coming back after injury. A.J Brown can take a good number of those tight end routes inside and create nice plays for them."

Brown, selected in the second round of the NFL Draft, looked good in offseason workouts for the team before being slowed late after a minor setback. He's expected to make an impact for the Titans right out of the gate in 2019.

Selected 51st overall, Brown is the school's all-time leading receiver with 2,984 yards. He tallied the most 100-yard receiving games in Ole Miss history and is third on the school's leaderboard in receptions with 189.

Davis, a draft analyst for NFL Network, liked what the Titans did in their six-player draft. The team selected Mississippi State defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons with their first-round pick. In addition to Simmons and Brown, the Titans also selected guard Nate Davis, defensive back Amani Hooker, outside linebacker D'Andre Walker and inside linebacker David Long Jr.

"It was a very professional draft," Davis said of the Titans. "When you think about what Jon Robinson does, and what he is doing with Mike Vrabel, they are going to build a hard-nosed team, they are going to build a team that runs the football, but they are also working on protecting their quarterback. And of course you have to get people who can get after the quarterback.

"They are going to continue to work in that direction. People worry about Jeffery Simmons and 'When will he play?' This may be a patience pick, but you are able to make that pick because the organization was already strong."
