Observations From Day 6 of Titans Camp

190801-mariota

NASHVILLE – The Titans hit the field at Saint Thomas Sports Park on Thursday for the sixth day of training camp.

Here's a look at what stood out on Day 6:

-NFL officials worked Thursday's practice, and met with players and coaches during the day at Saint Thomas Sports Park to discuss rules changes and points of emphasis for the 2019 season.

-Running back Derrick Henry, receiver A.J. Brown, tight end Delanie Walker, linebacker Kamalei Correa, tackle Jack Conklin and defensive lineman Frank Herron did not practice on Thursday.

-Tackle Dennis Kelly left practice early and did not return. There were indications he was dealing with a stomach bug.

-Guard Nate Davis left practice early with a trainer and did not return.

-The Titans once again worked with a lot of combinations on the offensive line. With Kelly out, Taylor Lewan worked mostly with the first team at left tackle, but Kevin Pamphile also got first team reps there in addition to working at guard.

-Receiver Corey Davis once again made the catch of the day when he went up high in the back of the end zone and pulled down a lofted pass thrown by quarterback Ryan Tannehill with one hand. Davis made the catch in between three defenders, and he managed to get his feet down just inside the back line.

-In a one-on-one period early in practice, receivers Adam Humphries, Taywan Taylor, Darius Jennings, Papi White, Anthony Ratliff-Williams, Tanner McEvoy, Kalif Raymond and Davis all made catches.

-In the same period mentioned above, defensive backs Logan Ryan, Adoree' Jackson, Kevin Byard, Tye Smith and LeShaun Sims all had stops. Smith made a really nice break-up on a deep ball intended for White.

-When the Titans worked on kickoff returns, Dion Lewis, Jennings, Taylor and Raymond all fielded kicks.

-The first team offensive line looked like this at the start: Taylor Lewan (LT), Rodger Saffold (76), Ben Jones (C), Nate Davis, Austin Pasztor (RT).

-In an early run period, linebacker Rashaan Evans made two stops near the line of scrimmage as he busted through the hole and met Dion Lewis on both plays.

-Tight end Cole Wick had touchdowns on back-to-back plays in a red zone drill – one from Tannehill, the other from quarterback Marcus Mariota.

-Receiver Tajae Sharpe had a nice day. Sharpe hauled in passes on three straight plays during a late period in practice.

-Linebacker Harold Landry showed up several times on Thursday. Landry made a stop on running back Dalyn Dawkins early, and later he pressured Mariota and forced an incompletion to receiver Adam Humphries.

-Defensive lineman Matt Dickerson and outside linebacker Derick Roberson made stops in an early run period.

-Jackson has started to make some nice plays. He had a nice break-up on a pass intended for Sharpe.

-Running back Alex Barnes had a nice catch out of the backfield.

-McEvoy, just signed by the Titans on Wednesday, went up high and made a beautiful catch for a score.

-In a red zone period, Lewis caught a short touchdown pass from Mariota. Lewis turned in several nice runs on the day.

-Linebacker Jayon Brown stuffed running back Jeremy McNichols in a red zone period.

-I keep mentioning Raymond in these reports, and he made it again several times today. Raymond got open deep and caught a touchdown pass from Tannehill. He consistently gets open in a hurry on short routes.

-Linebacker LaTroy Lewis stuffed Dawkins in a run late in practice.

-Cornerback Kenneth Durden had a nice break-up on a pass intended for receiver Cody Hollister.

Next practice: Friday, 9:50 a.m.-noon (Open to fans).
