NASHVILLE, Tenn. –** Quick Hits and Observations from Day 17 of Titans Training Camp.

Here's what you need to know …

What stood out

• Quarterback Marcus Mariota took off and ran for a touchdown during a goal-line period, and he flipped a few passes to running back DeMarco Murray while on the move. (More on Murray later).

• Quarterback Matt Cassel had a good night. He completed two short passes – to receiver Tre McBride and tight end Jonnu Smith – for touchdowns in a red zone period. Later, he completed several passes downfield.

• Receiver Harry Douglas made an acrobatic catch in the back of the end zone with cornerback Adoree' Jackson covering him. Douglas managed to hold onto the ball as he crashed into the wall of the team's practice bubble.

• Cornerback Tye Smith has been noticeable in several recent practices. He's proving each day he's not afraid to stick his head into the fray, even when the back is a big man like Derrick Henry.

• Receiver Rishard Matthews made a nice twisting catch downfield, and on the sideline. He did it over cornerback Logan Ryan, and managed to outrace everyone to the end zone.

• Running back Akeem Judd, who ripped off a 40-yard yard run against the Jets, busted another long gainer in the latter portion of practice.

• Cornerback Kalan Reed, who turned in a nice performance himself on Saturday night, was around the football again on Monday night.

• Defensive lineman DaQuan Jones busted up the middle and wrapped up Henry on an early run drill.

• Linebacker Kevin Dodd showed up with a nice stop of Henry later in practice.

• Running back David Fluellen produced several nice runs during the session.

Play of Day

Tight end Jace Amaro made an impressive catch in the back corner of the end zone, and paid for it.

Amaro caught a pass from quarterback Alex Tanney while on the move. When he extended to catch it, he hit the ground and slid into the revolving doors leading to and from the practice field.

Amaro held on. He got up, looked at his arm (which appeared to hit the door pretty hard), and received congratulations for the catch.

Story of the Day

Running back DeMarco Murray returned to team drills and did his most extensive work in practice since suffering a hamstring injury early in camp.

Murray sat out Saturday's game against the Jets, and had worked on a side field and in individual drills more recently.

Murray ran the ball well, and caught several passes from Mariota out of the backfield.

"He looked good," Titans coach Mike Mularkey said of Murray. "He actually did more than I was expecting. I'm the one that pulled him out of the team period because of the number of reps he had up to that point, but I was pleased with the way he looked."

Injury Watch**

Receiver Corey Davis (hamstring), linebacker Aaron Wallace (back), linebacker Kourtnei Brown (hamstring), receiver Mekale McKay and long snapper Beau Brinkley (groin) did not practice.

Defensive lineman Karl Klug (ankle) was back on the practice field, and so was cornerback Demontre Hurst.

Other notables

• Mularkey said the team plans to start Sylvester Williams at nose tackle this week after starting Antwaun Woods on Saturday. Mularkey said the competition is close between the players.

• Mularkey said receiver Tajae Sharpe, who remains on PUP, is doing some straight line running and is nearing a return.

• Defensive lineman Jurrell Casey was given the night off as a reward for his Offseason Performer of the Year award.

• The Titans moved practice indoors because of the weather, and field conditions at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

• The Ben & Morey Show crew attended practice and conducted interviews in the locker room after the session.

Next practice: Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. at Saint Thomas Sports Park, with the Carolina Panthers.
