NASHVILLE, Tenn. —** The Titans joined LP Building Products and the FBI at Nissan Stadium to provide educational strategies and action steps to help protect children in the digital age.
It’s a changing world out there and there are a lot of “things’ on our phones, computers and gaming devices that parents are not aware of that could expose our youth to unwanted attention. This session helps to better understand those threats so we can better protect our youth.
“Parents, teachers and the whole community really need to pay attention and be involved with their kids to understand what their habits are online and do the things that are prudent to protect their children from online predators, e-mail conversations and activities that aren’t healthy for kids,” said Matthew Espenshade, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, FBI Nashville.
“There are many people out there wishing to do us harm,” said Mike Blosser, Senior Vice President, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation. “We need to be aware of that and take it seriously. We need to have the skills and buildings to protect our families and make our kids savvy to the ways of the world.”
All event proceeds were used to purchase technology for Monroe Harding in Nashville, www. monroeharding.org. Monroe Harding is a caring, dedicated group who provides children in foster care with the knowledge, experience and security they need to become self-sufficient contributors to society. Monroe Harding serves as a resource for foster families and for youth who are transitioning from foster care.
“We want to try and get ahead in the beginning of the chain to help kids who are at risk and that is what Monroe Harding does so well. We’re raising money for them today, raising the interest level and awareness level of what their great cause is,” said Espenshade.
“Monroe Harding has been a part of the Nashville community since 1893,” said Pamela Madison, Director of Youth Connections, Monroe Harding. “We serve young people who have been in foster care or are currently in foster care. We provide opportunities for them to utilize our internet services and educate them about what they do while they are on the computer because our young people are vulnerable. We are excited and very appreciative to come and receive funding for some of the services at our resource center.”
The average 10-year-old has an i-phone with unlimited access. It’s important to know what your kids are doing online, understand the risks as children are preyed on.
“It’s always great to have the whole community come together to support a cause like this.” Blosser said.
“Organizations like the Titans, LP and they FBI coming together is a team that can’t be beat!” said Espenshade.
