Titans, NFL Mourn Loss of Coach Gunther Cunningham

NASHVILLE – Former Titans assistant coach Gunther Cunnigham has died.

The Titans released the following statement on Monday:

“Our deepest sympathies go out to Gunther Cunningham’s family and friends. He was a great man and a great coach.”

Cunningham coached from 2001-03 with the Titans, as an assistant head coach/linebackers coach under head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fisher wrote a post about Cunningham on his Twitter page on social media.

“Was sad to learn of the passing of my friend, Gunther Cunningham,” Fisher wrote. “I had the honor to coach with him & against him. You’ll never meet another man with such a passion for people, family & football. We will miss him deeply. Our thoughts & prayers are with Rene and the family.”

In addition to his time with the Titans, Cunningham coached at Baltimore, Indianapolis, San Diego, Los Angeles, Kansas City and Detroit in the NFL. He was a head coach with the Chiefs for two seasons.
