Biography

PRO: The Titans acquired John Theus late in the 2018 offseason to bring competition to the offensive tackle position. The 6-foot-6-inch, 303-pounder was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The University of Georgia product spent the majoirty of the 2017 season as a member of the Carolina Panthers. Prior to arriving in Nashville, Theus spent part of the 2018 offseason with the New Orleans Saints.

TITANS TIDBITS: 
•   In 2013, Theus took a mission trip to Haiti during spring break where he worked in a village. In the morning, he painted houses and tilled the land and in the afternoon he led Bible study.
•   Theus’ brother, Nathan, played long snapper at Georgia (2012-15) and the two went through the NFL Draft process together in 2016.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS: 
•   The Jacksonville, Fla., native was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (145th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
•   Waived by the 49ers on Sept. 13, 2017.
•   Claimed by the Carolina Panthers off waivers from the 49ers on Sept. 14, 2017.
•   Waived by the Panthers on Feb. 26, 2018.
•   Claimed by the New Orleans Saints off waivers from the Panthers on Feb. 27, 2018.
•   Waived by the Saints on May 16, 2018.
•   Claimed by the Titans off waivers from the Saints on May 17, 2018.

COLLEGE:
•   In four seasons at Georgia, played in 53 games with 48 starts for the Bulldogs.
•   As a senior (2015), started all 13 games and was voted the Bulldogs overall team captain and also won one of four Coaches’ Leadership Awards. Also earned First-Team All-SEC honors.
•   As a junior (2014), started all 13 games and earned AP Honorable Mention All-SEC honors as the offense led the SEC in rushing (257.8 yds. per game).
•   As a sophomore (2013), played in 13 games with eight starts and was part of an offense that ranked second in the SEC in passing.
•   As a true freshman (2012), was named to The Sporting News All-America Freshman Team. Started all 14 games and became just the third true freshman to start at tackle in a season opener for Georgia since freshmen became eligible in 1973. Was also named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll.
•   Majored in human development & family science at Georgia.

PERSONAL: 
•   Attended The Bolles School (Jacksonville, Fla.) and earned 2011 USA Today First-Team All-America honors. After the season, Theus played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
•   Helped lead Bolles to the FHSAA state titles in 2009 and 2011, as well as an undefeated season and district title in 2010.
•   Also competed in shot put and discus on the track and field team.
•   Born John Bailey Theus on Jan. 19, 1994 in Jacksonville, Fla.
