Biography

PRO: Kalan Reed was selected by the Titans with the final pick in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft.  The 5-foot-11-inch, 192-pounder saw action in four games as a rookie and collected a tackle on defense and a special teams stop on coverage units.  Reed was a three-year starter at Southern Mississippi and has a knack for finding the end zone having returned three of his eight collegiate interceptions for touchdowns.  His youth and athleticism adds to an already-competitive defensive back unit, and he also will compete for playing time on special teams coverage units.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
•    In 2015, Reed was named first-team All-Conference USA after notching a school record 19 passes defensed, including a career-high four interceptions, two which he returned for touchdowns.

TITANS TIDBITS:
•    The Titans selected Reed with the 253rd pick in the draft making him “Mr. Irrelevant,” an unofficial title bestowed upon the last person selected in the NFL Draft.  Reed was flown to California in early June for Irrelevant Week, which includes media events, fundraisers, and a banquet at which the honoree is given the Lowsman Trophy — as opposed to the Heisman Trophy.
•    Reed lived in Nashville from the time he was two years old until he was six.  He started playing football in Antioch, Tenn., with the Flatrock Vols pee-wee team and played during halftime of a Titans game when he was five years old.
•    Reed’s cousin, Maurice Kelly, played safety with the Seattle Seahawks and is currently the VP of Player Engagement for the organization.  Reed’s mother, Keyaschei, once worked in the Memphis Grizzlies ticket office.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
•    The Birmingham, Ala., native was selected by the Titans in the seventh round (253rd overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
•    Waived by the Titans on Sept. 3, 2016 and signed to the team’s practice squad a day later.
